BECOME A SUNRISE PERSON FOR 2008
Lead by Rev Jay Speights
December 31, 2007

It’s sad to say that most of us will wake up New Year’s morning and begin the New Year by putting both feet on the floor, and stepping directly into the past or future.   Our minds, like an internal DVD player will either fast forward to some anticipated future event, or rewind taking us back to something from the past that has been gnawing at us, This is no way to begin your day or year. We should begin each year with the full knowledge and understanding that we are in control of our destiny. Yes, as Reverend Jay Speights often says, “Your write and direct the play that is your life.”

So on New Years Eve, Reverend Jay Speights is going to ask you to become a SUNRISE PERSON. What does this mean? In Shambhalla Buddhism there is an experience called the Great Eastern Sun. This is a form of thinking that embodies letting go of fear, anxiety, and negativity. Those who hold on to these things are “Sunset People.” Their spirits and minds remain in the dark negativities of yesterday. Great Eastern Sun People embrace the light of the new day, and let go of the fears and anxieties of the past. They walk into the light of a new day without fear.

Reverend Speights will lead a ritual where you will be asked to rename yourself for the New Year with a name that embodies the traits and characteristics that you desire to achieve your highest goals and perfection in 2008.The ritual will also include a meditation that will incorporate elements from Taoist and Zen philosophies mixed with Neuro-Linguisitic Programming, which help you anchor and access positive states of being whenever needed. Finally, the major part of the meditation will be the releasing of fears, doubts and limiting beliefs that prevent us from stepping on to our path and moving with confidence toward our destiny.

Reverend Jay Speights is a Spiritual Coach and the author of “Harmonious Day: A Self-leading Spiritual Approach for Reaching Your Highest Perfection”, which was ranked number 27 on Amazon’s New Spiritual Releases this summer.  He also writes a weekly column called “All Paths” on United Press International’s ReligionAndSpirituality.com, and is an on-call chaplain at The Washington Hospital Center.
