RELEASING THE WRITER WITHIN

 

This is a workshop for those interested in exploring creative writing, with a focus on poetry, fiction, and playwriting. This course will include writing exercises, short lectures, critiques of student work, group readings, discussion, and one-to-one attention. Instructors are Jesse Arthur Stone and Lynn Swanson.

Jesse Arthur Stone has an M.A. in English and American Literature from Claremont Graduate School and an M.F.A. in creative writing from Vermont College. His poems have appeared in numerous literary journals, including Margie: the American Journal of Poetry, Nimrod, Hayden’s Ferry Review, Passager, Artemis, Peralta Press, Ilya’s Honey, and others. He has won awards from the Paumanok Poetry Award Contest, the Arvon International Poetry Competition, Artemis, the C.H. Jones Foundation, and the Atlanta Review. Jesse has taught literature and writing at Chaffey College, Community College of Vermont, Vermont College, and Johnson State College. He currently works as a science writer at the National Institutes of Health and lives with his wife, writer and dancer Lynn Swanson, in Silver Spring.

 

Lynn Swanson is a prize-winning poet and fiction writer. She holds a B.F.A. in dance from the University of Michigan and a master’s degree in creative writing from Michigan State University. She is published in poetry and fiction and is the author of a young person’s novel, Summer Dance, based on her dance experience. She taught creative writing at Michigan State, where her students found success in becoming published and in winning prizes. Lynn most recently won a top award in the Robert Penn Warren Awards judged by John Ashbery.
